As the IRS pushes facial recognition, the government's own ID service rejects the technology

On Thursday, a group of Senate Republicans wrote a letter to Rettig that cited the government's "unfortunate history of data breaches." The IRS, the letter said, had "unilaterally decided to allow an outside contractor to stand as the gatekeeper between citizens and necessary government services.
